Song of the Sea tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse – the last Seal-child – who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.
Song of the Sea, directed by Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) features the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny. Music is by composer Bruno Coulais and Irish band Kíla, both of whom previously collaborated on The Secret of Kells

Tips for Drawing:
Drawing is the core method of researching, investigating, developing and communicating ideas.
- Get lots of reference and save it to your Reference Folder
- Analyze the characters personality and construction
- Apply basic shape language to deconstruct the character.
- Apply emotional context to colour theory of the original character design
- Do not trace
- Apply Solid drawing techniques (perspective).
- Use grids, guidelines or rough forms to get the proportions right before you add details
- Keep the outlines light
- Have a good range of Tone and apply the needed elements of visual language
- Use mark-making to convey surface quality and texture1
- Include / omit detail as necessary
- Insert your own soul

It is recommended that students carry a sketch book with them and draw everyday. Daily drawings must be dated, documented and posted. Navigate to your First Name Last Name folder in the Document folder. Now create a Song of the Sea Activity folder, incise this folder create areference folderand a Character DesignFolder. ALWAYSname your digital files: first_last_SongOfTheSea.psdand export to post as first_last_SongOfTheSea.jpgon your Behance project.
Drawing & Colour:
Students are to draw and colour the characters in their own style. Be aware of plot lines! Keep Story spine and character arcs in mind.
