Interactive Digital Media Framework

The Interactive Digital Media program is a new Technical Vocational Education (TVE) framework. Technical vocational initiatives are an important part of the educational structure and play a major role in developing a flexible and well‐educated work force able to address current and emerging industry and labour‐market needs, allowing Manitoba to compete globally. Alumni from this program have found employment at Complex Games and SkyBox Lab games.
A minimum of 8 approved credits are required from within this approved Senior Years Technology Education Program cluster. In addition, students must fulfill the graduation requirements by completing optional credits. A Grade 11 Social Studies credit is not compulsory for graduation from the Technology Education Program.

Curriculum Implementation Dates

During voluntary implementation, teachers have the option of teaching the entire new draft curriculum as soon as Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning releases it on the Technology Education website.
They also have the option of teaching the courses from the previous curriculum. Teachers who implement courses before system-wide implementation need to ensure that students who are already taking courses from the previous curriculum achieve all SLOs with a minimum of redundancy.
Voluntary implementation of all courses begins in the fall of 2015 and will continue until their respective system-wide implementation dates.

Under system-wide implementation, all teachers in Manitoba teach the new curriculum and use the new course codes. Teachers will no longer be able to use the previous course codes. Course codes are found in the Subject Table Handbook: Technology Education


Motion Picture Arts Framework

Motion picture arts are the collection of creative disciplines which produces various forms of content for television, movies, web, social media, video games, interactive media, etc.  In this cluster of courses, students will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to produce content such as animations, short films, documentaries, television episodes, commercials, music videos,  Students will develop industry-relevant skills, such as operating equipment, using industry software, and managing projects, while earning industry certification and developing a portfolio.  Students will be prepared to seek entry-level employment and/or enter post-secondary education

Motion Picture Arts Framework:

Grade 9

Exploration of Motion Picture Arts:  This optional course is designed for students to explore the motion picture arts. Students will learn the skills to tell stories visually through recording and editing video, sketching and frame by frame animation.

Grade 10

Introduction to Motion Picture Arts:  This course introduces students to visual story telling through the tools of film grammar, cinematography, editing, and sound design.

Grade 11

Fundamentals of Animation:  This course allows students to explore the principles of animation, stop-motion, character animation, rigging, walk cycles, cell animation, lip syncing, and compositing.
Fundamentals of  Compositing & Visual Effects:  Students will extend their learning in visual storytelling by using digital tools to add effects and creating more impactful moving images. VFX skills learned in this course include motion design, chroma key (green screen), masking, rotoscoping, and demo reel development.
Fundamentals of  Pre-Visualization:  In this course, students explore image creation techniques and traditional theory to create original characters, scenes, settings, props, environments and concepts for films, animations and games. The main goal of the course is to develop the student’s creative skills while exploring the drawing, digital painting, 2D environment creation, 3D models, and practical effects.

Grade 12

Applied Motion Picture Arts:  In this course, students will select an area of specialization in the motion picture arts, and hone their skills in that area.
Motion Picture Arts Project Management:  In this course, students will collaborate with others as they apply the knowledge and skills learned in previous courses in order to create, manage and present an authentic motion picture arts project.
Motion Picture Arts Studio Training;  Student create a career pathway plan to earn industry certification in order to facilitate their transition into the motion picture arts industry.
Motion Picture Arts Portfolio Development:  In this course, students hone their professional online identity, and create a portfolio designed to gain employment in the motion picture arts industry.
