This year’s Carole Vivier Scholarship recipient is Semira Abolore!

Semira is a promising young female filmmaker who is studying in the CREATE post high program to upgrade her skillset as she plans her next moves. This year she successfully co-produced three mini-documentaries for CBC Manitoba, including pitching and directing her own piece on an extraordinary multilingual high school student. She is currently in the final stages of editing her narrative short film, The Real World, which explores the struggles of a young artist applying to a prestigious university. Semira has shown dedication, imagination, and a boundless collaborative spirit that will serve her well in her future studies and career.
“After participating this year in the Sisler CREATE post high film program as a mentor, I’m not at all surprised that Semira has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Carole Vivier award. I was fortunate to meet and work with Carole over the course of my career in the Manitoba Film community. Carole was a champion of storytellers within the film industry and it was her mission to open the doors for a wide range of storytellers, including those who’s gifts and talents have the potential to lead our film community into an exciting new future. Despite being early in her training and career Semira’s passion and natural ability for creating compelling worlds and character’s is undeniable and unique. Personally, I can’t wait to work in a film industry that has exciting young storytellers like Semira at the helm and I’m excited to see what kind of projects she brings to life.“
